Learn the traffic signs
You do not have to memorise every sign as a separate picture. Learn the shape and colour first, then the series, then practise the signs you mix up.
Shape and colour
- Triangle with a red border: usually danger or a warning.
- Round: a rule. Red is a ban, blue is an order.
- Square or rectangle: information or a direction.
- Octagon: STOP. Come to a complete stop.
- Yellow: a temporary situation, for example road works.
There are exceptions. That is why practice helps more than the list alone.
Memory aids
- A red diagonal bar: no parking. A brief stop is still allowed.
- A red cross: no stopping either.
- Point down: you give way.
- A bar across the sign: the end of that rule.
- A blue circle: mandatory, not advice.
Supplementary plates belong with the sign. They show times, vehicles or exceptions.
The series
The signs are grouped. If you know the group, you learn faster. The memory aid after it is not official.
- Series A, speed. The km/h limit.
- Series B, priority. Whose turn it is.
- Series C, closed to certain vehicles.
- Series D, the direction you must take.
- Series E, parking and stopping.
- Series F, other orders and prohibitions.
- Series G, position on the road.
- Series H, built-up area.
- Series J, warning.
- Series K, direction signs.
- Series L, information.

Where people lose marks
- Mixing up parking and stopping.
- Mixing up give way and STOP.
- Knowing the sign, but not the end sign.
- Skipping the supplementary plate.
- Trying to learn everything in one evening.
Shorter, more frequent practice works better. After each quiz, look only at the mistakes.
